Bill C-22, the Canada Disability Benefit Act has passed its 2nd reading in the House with many locals voicing their support.
Bill C-22 aims to reduce poverty for Canadians living with disability.
Among those in support of it is Perth-Wellington MP John Nater where he spoke about stories from locals in the House of Commons.
“One participant talked about how a haircut was considered a luxury. Another individual talked about on how the meager amount that she receives each month she’s not able to have a social life, she can’t even go for a cup of coffee.” said Nater.
Nater hopes with the bill being passed it can address some issues to protect people living with disabilities as well as to the make application process more easy to use so nobody faces issues to receive their benefits.
The Local in Stratford held a rally of support for Nater’s efforts to push the bill to be passed in Stratford yesterday.
