While Quebec Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia was elected as Speaker of the House of Commons on Monday, there was a shot for Perth-Wellington MP John Nater.
Nater was one of two conservatives who put their name forward in the race for Speaker but both withdrew before the election on Monday.
While it isn’t certain the reasoning for bowing out, the elected speaker no longer can vote in the house.
Members cast their ballots on Monday in a secret ballot vote with Francis coming on top.
