It was a bittersweet game in Goderich last night for Mitchell’s Chris Faulkner.
He was appearing in one of the final games of his 23 year career as a junor hockey referee for the Walkerton Hawks vs. Goderich Flyers game.
Faulkner was previously a Junior Hockey player in Junior C in Bradford as a Goaltender before hanging up his pads and picking up a whistle.
In terms of changes he’s seen over the years one thing he notices is the speed.
“It’s a little bit quicker. The younger kids areĀ more developed then they would have been in the past. There is a lot more speed than physical play. Having a four man system out here nowadays definitely helps the old legs.”
The future is still undecided for Faulkner. He says minor hockey supervisor and instructor are possible destinations.
