A first look at the Minto budget is looking at tax levy increase of around 4.88 per cent but the local rate is staying low, jumping by 1.88 per cent.

For the Town of Minto, this would mean the tax bill would rise around $24. Minto taxpayers could see around $21 more per $100,000 worth of assessment for the year.

The budget also showed the town see’s 38.1 per cent of tax dollars collected, 46.1 goes back to the county with 15.8 per cent for education.

Mayor Dave Turton had high praise for staff, saying every budget has been well handled with very few questions needed.

“We have a well rounded staff that brings the budget to us every year with the support of our CAO and Treasurer. Very few questions, you guys go through it extremely well every year. ” said Turton.

There is still more to discuss and break down with the budget with the next meeting in February focused on capital programs.

A public open house for the budget will be held in March.
