Ministry announces changes to LTC to help with hospital capacity

Move is being made to free up beds in hospitals from those waiting for an LTC bed

Ontario’s Ministry of Longterm Care announced changes that it say could help the strain on the hospital system due to chronic care patients in hospital waiting for long term beds.

The Ministry announced today that it will waive fees for patients who agree to take a long term care bed in a home that may not be their first choice while they wait for the facility they want.

Those that agree to the move will maintain their place on the wait list for the first choice. If the patient is fully immunized the Ministry also said they could skip the usually mandatory isolation period before moving.

Staffing rules were also altered to allow long-term care staff who are fully vaccinated to work at more than one facility.
