Minister of Labour working on attracting skilled people to trades

Construction trade alone is facing a shortage of 22,00 skilled trades workers

The Province’s Minster of Labour Training and Skills Development, Monte McNaughton, is touting the governments efforts in addressing the shortage of skilled trades people needed to lead in Ontario’s economic recovery.

The government is said to have an ambitious agenda of building infrastructure across Ontario. They include expanding the supply of natural gas, improving the way people get around with improved transit systems and expanding broadband internet access. Skilled labour is at the heart of all of these initiatives.

The government is planning on sending in dozens of recruiters into high schools around Ontario to compete against Post Secondary institutions to get the youth into the trades.

Ontario is facing a shortage of 22,000 skilled trades workers in the construction industry alone because of the aging workforce in the field.
