Midwestern Newspapers has once again been recognized with a series of provincial awards.
Midwestern Newspapers was honoured with seven top awards in the Ontario Community Newspapers Association 2024 Better Newspapers Competition.
The Wingham Advanced Times placed first in the General Excellence category with the Listowel Banner in second.
Reporter Kelsey Bent placed first in the Education Writing category for a story around a school boards handling of organizing a school wide rainbow photo in support of Pride Month.
Bent also was awarded second place for Columnist of the Year
Former reporter Dan McNee getting a first place award for a story on National Addiction Awareness. McNee also got an award for a Remembrance Day feature on a World War II Veteran told from the soldier’s niece.
Nicole Beswitherick earned a first place in Best Feature Photo under 8000 and Best Sports Photo with the Listowel Banner.
Rachel Hammermueller got second place for Best News Story circulation under 8000 with the Advanced Times.
Bent and Hammermueller also grabbed third place for Best Feature/News Series circulation under 8000 for coverage on a proposal to allow ATV’s on North Perth Trials.
Patrick Raftis got third place for Best Editorial circulation under 8000 for a Listowel Banner editorial.
Cory Bilyea with the Wingham Advanced Times got third place as Photographer of the Year.
