Governor General Mary Simon has received the first poppy of 2021 National Poppy Campaign.
Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion President Bruce Julian presented Simon the ceremonial poppy in a ceremony with several veterans and cadets in attendance.
This marks the 100th anniversary of the Poppy as Canada’s national symbol of remembrance after it was adopted in 1921 by the Great War Veterans Association.
Funds from the Poppy Campaign are given to support veteran and their families.
The Poppy Campaign officially will kick off October 29th.
