Mapleton council is once again looking into the matter of whether or not to be a willing host for further wind energy development.
In May of 2013, council said they would not be a host for windmills and wind energy development but on Tuesday the conversation started back up.
The township was approached by a company in renewable energy expressing interest in having windmills in Mapleton.
Mayor Gregg Davidson was among those who was opposed to the idea.
“I’ve heard nothing from anyone in the community saying they want to open this up and I haven’t heard anything from the provincial government saying we want you to be willing a host. I’m on the other side of things, I do not believe we should move forward just because on company has come saying we should move forward with this.” said Davidson.
After some discussion, council has directed to staff to get more input and get public thoughts on about being a willing host.
In 2018 the Ford government canceled over 750 renewable energy projects but this year say they are looking to reinvest into renewable projects such as windmills.
