The Maitland Conservation Authority issued a watershed conditions statement today on water safety.
In it they say that an incoming low-pressure system, along with already present mild temperatures will bring a forecast widespread rainfall of 15 to 25 mm into the Maitland watershed.
The combination they project will result in a steady melt of the snowpack from last week’s blizzard.
Runoff generated will lead to saturated ground conditions and elevated water levels in rivers and streams along the watershed.
They as a result may reach or exceed bankful conditions resulting in minor flooding in low-lying areas.
They expect the conditions to continue over the next several days.
The message is in effect until the afternoon of Wednesday, January 4th, 2023.
