Despite the custom look such as minion fire hydrants, Fire Chief Chris Cleave says the nifty looks need to go.
The fire hydrants are not are not in compliance with the National Fire Prevention Association standards. Despite council wishing for the designs to stay as long as possible, Cleave says they need to change immediately to be in accordance with standards.
Designs such as cartoon characters or maple leaves are not permitted for painting fire hydrants.
Council have accepted the tender of $35,370 plus HST to Neptune Security Services for 255 fire hydrants in Ripley, Lucknow and Lakeshore water distribution systems to bring the hydrants up to code.
Mayor Mitch Twolan saying while the custom designs have been a nice addition for smile during the pandemic, it must change to be up to standards.
