The Transportation Industry was already facing a driver shortage even before the pandemic hit Canada and the world in 2020. Reports have the industry needing 18,000 drivers by next March to meet the demand for moving goods across the Country. By 2023 the shortage could reach over 50,000.
Now that the vaccination mandate has hit the industry there are local transportation such as Scott Dallner at Mad Express that are worried that the temporary measure that will cause loyal drivers to leave the industry may not see them come back when they are lifted.
“A lot of these drivers that have gotten out will go out and find work elsewhere and it will exasperate the driver shortage we had before this. It’s going to be a rough road until we get back into those numbers if at all. ”
Licensing to become a truck driver can range from $10,000 to $15,000 depending on where in the Country you live.
