As cases continue to spike at Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Home in Listowel, the Listowel-Wingham Hospitals Alliance has stepped forward to offer their assistance.

Some residents are being temporarily relocated from both the retirement and nursing home sides to local hospitals to aid in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in the home. Who will be moved is based on many factors. Residents may be moved based on health status or care needs.

Communications and Marketing Manager at Caressant Care Stuart Oakley says the decision to transfer residents was not made taken lightly. He added saying Caressant Cares priority is the safety of its residents and staff.

6 residents were moved to local hospitals on January 19th, 3 from the nursing home and 3 from the retirement home. More are expected to be transferred in the following days.

Currently 40 residents on the long term care side have tested positive for COVID-19 and 19 staff members. 25 residents on the retirement home side have tested positive with 7 staff. 3 residents have passed away.
