It’s been a busy season down at the Listowel Squash Courts and the finals are now right around the corner.
This year at the courts, both the mens league and womens league saw a variety of back and forth action.
The womens league for the most part saw beginners give squash a go and overtime grew and progressed with the help of clinics which dialed up the heat throughout the year.
Alan McArthur, Owner and Operator of the Listowel Squash Courts says it was the first year for the women’s league and was pleased to see so many come out.
“We had 20 women sign up, 19 of them were new to the sport. That was huge for the club and for the league. They just came in, a whole lot of new people coming out to try it.” said McArthur
On the mens league as McArthur says, it was just as heated with plenty of skill passed around
“It’s gotten intense this year, we have 1 lady in the men’s league she felt the competition wouldn’t be there for her in the women’s league since she isn’t a beginner. She’s really good and the guys are just incredible.”
The finals are now set at the squash courts on April 21st at 7pm and McArthur says this is a great event for those to come down and watch their neighbours compete, meet new people, learn more about the sport and even give it a go to see if its right for them
“Any of our members would love to hop on the court with anybody. We’ll get you on the court or if you come with somebody else or with a group we can get you on and playing.”
