Leland and Thora Vance were long-time residents of Wingham who genuinely cared about the people in their community.
In efforts to ensure that the community’s residents were supported after their lifetime, they provided a donation to set up a fund at the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
It has launched Recreation Grants, a funding stream to provide & maintain recreational facilities for the general population of Wingham – now and in the future.
There is approximately $95,000 set to be distributed in Recreation Grants in 2022.
The decisions on which projects are funded is in the hands of a committee of volunteer community members from Wingham and a representative from the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
The criteria for applications include no minimum or maximum amount to apply for, funding must be used before October 31, 2023, organizations must be located in Wingham and must either be a charity, qualified donees by the CRA or through a partnership with a registered charity or qualified donees that is.
