Lack of Rain Slowing the Filling of Lake Victoria

While the sluice gate is closed, a lack and continued lack of showers has slowed the filling of Lake Victoria.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says the lake has risen just 0.6 metres since the debris was removed from under the gate on July 31st and the rise will slow as the lake surface area gets bigger.

Inflows from the Avon River have likely dropped as well, causing more challenges.

While there are some minor chances of rain in the forecast, the conservation authority says it won’t be enough to generate runoff to help fill the lake as staff continue to do what they can to bring the lake back up while still maintaining flows downstream.
