North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg’s is continuing to push for action on affordable and attainable housing across Perth County.

Kasenberg who serves on county council brought forward a notice of motion on August 3rd on the subject which asked for bi-monthly reports due in each of the 1st council meetings of the months of January, March, May, July, September and November to look at progress for the county’s Housing Plan.

Kasenberg says they can’t rely on groups like social services to handle the entire situation and council has to act.

“We can be distracted by notions that social services would take care of everything needed to address the housing crisis we face in Perth County or that we can just turn things over to organizations that will do the work.” said Kasenberg.

“We need policy, we need dollars and we can’t expect the consolidative service manager to do or take care of much more than that left side of the housing spectrum”

Council dissolved its Affordable, Attainable Housing Committee in June.

There was no immediate move on the motion by council who have pushed it back to vote on September 7th.
