Jagmeet Singh Pledges to Cool Down Housing Market

Campaign promise to invest $14 billion in housing construction

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he is pledging a foreign home buyers tax and investment in housing in an effort to cool down the housing market.

Singh’s election campaign promise, unveiled during a virtual conference proposes to invest $14 billion in housing construction and build 500,000 units over four years.

The NDP’s pledge is looking to shine over the Liberals federal budget who plan to spend $2.4 billion over the next five years on affordable housing.

Singh is looking to tax non-residents who own vacant homes in Canada at one percent of the assessed value.
