Investigation leads to Arson Charge

Land owner charged with possession of suspected methamphetamine

Huron County OPP have charged a Howick Township resident with arson following an investigation.

On December 13th at approximately 7:30pm Huron County OPP and Howick Fire Department responded to a farm property located on Orange Hill Road.

First responders observed a camper trailer fully engulfed in flames. Upon making contact with the land owner he became combative and assaultive with police.

The accused was taken into custody and upon search the accused was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

A 50 year old male of Howick has been charged with arson, possession of a schedule 1 substance, resisting arrest and 4 counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

He remains in custody on these charges with a court appearance scheduled for December 17th at the Goderich Ontario Court of Justice.

Members of the Huron OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
