Impaired snowmobiler crashes sled near Atwood

Driver was found to be over the legal limit while in hospital

 

A Huron East resident faces an impaired operation charge following a snowmobile crash that took place yesterday west of Atwood.

At approximately 6pm yesterday Huron County OPP, Perth County Paramedic Services and Grey Township Fire Department responded to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail located between Henfryn Line and Krauter Line to investigate a snowmobile crash.

The driver was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital and while speaking with the driver police formed suspicion the driver had consumed some alcohol.

An approved screening device test was completed at the hospital and the driver registered a fail.

Two break tests were later provided to an Intoxilizer Technician and both test were found to be above the legal limit.

Investigators learned the driver lost control of his snowmobile and was ejected from his machine while overtaking another snowmobile. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.

A 56 year old male resident from Huron East has been charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 8th at an Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
