Impaired Driver hits Building While Fleeing Police in Atwood

Accused of No Fixed Address has been charged with 10 Charges ranging for Impaired Operation, Possession of Meth, Failure to Stop after an Accident and Driving while suspended.

The Perth County OPP say that one person has been charged after they drove while impaired and struck an outbuilding at a residence in Atwood.

An officer on general patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Ellen Street in Atwood just after 1:30pm on January 2nd. The vehicle then drove across the lawn of a nearby residence in order to flee and struck an outbuilding of another property.

The heavily damaged vehicle then fled southbound on Perth Road 164, then westbound on Perth Line 72. It continued into Huron County where it failed to stop for stop signs and drove dangerously into Clinton.

The vehicle was abandoned by the drive, who fled on foot and broke into a drive shed at a residence on Ausable Line near Hensall.

They were confronted by the homeowner who contacted police.

With the assistance of the Huron County OPP, the male was located and arrested. They were brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

A 29 year old male of no fixed address has been charged with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, flight from a police officer, break and enter to a dwelling, possession of meth, taking a vehicle without consent, failure to stop at an accident,  2 counts of possession of an identification document and driving while suspended.

The accused is being held pending a bail hearing.
