Hydro Rates Will Not Change During Stay at Home Order

Summer rates will start May 1st

Despite having done it for previous shutdowns, Ontario will not be offering off-peak hydro rates for the stay-at-home order.

Off peak hours for hydro will remain only after 7pm on weekdays and be off-peak on weekends.

When asked why the government wouldn’t make the switch, the Ministry of Energy said they were focusing on electricity relief for those who need it most from the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program.

The province will switch over the summer time of use schedule on May 1st which will invert mid peak and off peak rates, five days before the stay-home-order could be lifted.
