Huron County OPP alongside community partners are promoting a campaign to increase public awareness about the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act.
The act allows for legal protection for those who seek help during an overdose, even if the individual has taken or has drugs on them.
Huron County OPP Detachment Commander Jason Younan says there are many overdose deaths which could have been prevented but many witnesses don’t call 911 for fear of police involvement.
Since 2016, Huron County OPP have responded to nearly 150 drug over dose calls, 14 of which have been fatal.
