Huron County OPP officers were very busy during the recent Canada Day Road Safety Week Campaign that ran from June 25th, 2022 to July 3rd, 2022.
Officers paid close attention to what they described as “the big 4” causal factors in serious collisions on OPP patrolled roadways.
OPP officers have identified “the big 4” to be impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and failing to wear a seatbelt.
Huron OPP have witnessed two Fatal Collisions during recent traffic safety campaigns.
Huron County OPP have also laid a total of 226 charges during the campaign, which have been broken down into three categories; 164 charged for speeding, 7 failed to wear a seatbelt, and 1 impaired operation charge was laid.
Huron County OPP also investigated a total of 34 crashes during the campaign. Two of the crashes were fatal, one victim was a 17-year old cyclist, the other a 27-year old driver.
Police share the primary goal behind the campaign to provide a level of awareness, visibility, and enforcement to reduce collisions on our roadways. Another goal of the campaign is to target drivers who are putting others at risk.
OPP shares “Every single driver must do their part to help prevent these deadly crashes by driving in a safe and responsible manner”.
