Huron County Economic Development say they have completed a six month Business Retention and Expansion survey process.
In total they saw 723 survey results which represent 21% of Huron’s business community. They say the response rate was much higher than typically found in other communities in the Province.
The survey results indicate that, among other things local businesses see many advantages to operating in Huron County, including quality of life and support for local residents and other businesses.
Highlights include:
- 92% of business identified as locally owned & operated
• 81% of businesses have operated for 11 years or more.
• 94% of business have at least one primary owners involved
in day-to-day operations.
• 89% of businesses indicated at least one owner is a resident of Huron County.
• 60% of businesses say they do not have a business plan- 57% with a business plan had not updated in at least 5 years.
- 89% of businesses have 19 or less employees, with 67% of those
having only between 1 and 4 employees, including the owner.
Director of Economic Development, Vicki Lass, says the report paints a really dynamic picture of Huron County’s business community. Adding it confirms that they have a stable and invested business community with an overwhelming entrepreneurial spirit.
