Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb was among those who voted against Bill C-6.
The bill would amend the Criminal Code of Canada to help protect LGBTQ2S+ youth from undergoing conversion therapy.
The bill passed its third reading in the House of Commons on June 22nd with a vote of 263-63. Lobb was among the 63 conservatives voting nay. The bill will now move to the Senate before it can receive Royal Assent.
Ben Lobb says he is against conversion therapy, the advertising of it or the idea of having a minor moved out of the country to take part in conversion therapy. Lobb voted for the bill in its second reading.
Lobb adding, they are looking for an amendment in clear language around the ability for a parent, mentor, school counselor or pastor to have a conversation with the minor about their life choice.
The bill if passed in the senate would make it illegal to force a minor to take part in conversion therapy, force a person to take part in conversion therapy against their will, profit off of conversion therapy, advertise conversion therapy or remove a minor out of the country to take part in conversion therapy.
MP John Nater for Perth-Wellington voted for in the third reading.
