While the current heat wave is expected to snap by tonight, it’s still summertime and afternoon high’s are surging to the high 20’s making it feel closer to 30 with the humidity.
With the hot weather back in the forecast, the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford-Perth is reminding pet owners to never leave their pets inside their vehicles no matter the circumstance.
Animals such as dogs have a limited ability to regulate their body temperatures which can result in fatal consequences for pet owners.
Beverly Martin, Coordinator, Marketing and Communications for the Humane Society says even if its just for a few minutes, it can still be a major oversight.
“Even on a 25 degree day inside a parked car it can go over 37 in just 10 minutes that number just rises the longer you’re in it. It’s not just a quick run to the store. It can lead to tragedy unfortunately” said Martin.
Martin says when it comes to taking your dog for a walk its best to do it during cooler parts of the day such as in the morning or in the evening.
The Humane Society is still raising funds for the repairs to the dog run which was damaged due to the winter storms earlier this year.
