Humane Society See’s Increase in Harmful Traps to Wildlife

One skunk needed to be humane euthanized due to its injuries

Animal Service officers with the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford-Perth have seen an increased amount of traps being set with the intention to capture or harm local wildlife.

Multiple traps were found over the past several weeks with wildlife found deceased or in serious distress.

Two black plastic Rat Snap traps were seen with one capturing a skunk which had clawed its way free but was found deceased nearby.

The second also had trapped a skunk who was found in distress but had to be humanely euthanized due to its injuries.

Most municipalities have by laws which restrict the use of these types of traps and are strictly regulated.

The humane society has a wildlife resource guide set up to assist residents on how to humanely deter wildlife from the property.
