With today being World Stroke Day it’s a day aimed at raising awareness of the impact that strokes have on our society.
Over 13 million people have a stroke each year and around 5.5 million people die as a result.
Huron Perth Health Alliance shared the story of 51 year old stroke survivor Mark and his journey back from a stroke.
“The stroke is different for each person. Invariably [treatment staff] were able to encourage me and give me hope that I could recover even if they couldn’t give me an actual timeline for it.”
HPHA says signs of a stroke include your face drooping, not being able to raise both arms and speech that becomes slurred or jumbled. They say call 9-1-1 right away.
