Howick Resident Out $70,000 After Crypto Scam

 

Huron County OPP are reminding residents to be vigil after another resident has fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam.

On October 6th, police were contacted by a Howick resident who reported losing $70,000 in an internet investment scam between July-October.

The victim says they were called by someone claiming to a be a lawyer in England saying their law firm was organizing a class action lawsuit for cash lost in an investment scam from 2009.

The victim forwarded a “retainer fee” of $250 and allowed remote access to their computer.

Once all was done and done with bank transfers and conversions to crypto, $70,000 had been lost.
