Howick Council Opts to keep Ice in at Community Centre

Ice will remain with hope to reopen in the near future

As stay-at-home orders continue, councilors across counties and towns have had to make decisions regarding indoor ice rinks and whether to keep the ice or remove for the season.

Howick council made the decision to keep the ice at the Howick Community Centre despite the rink being closed to the public until further notice. All facilities across Ontario have been closed since December 26th with new restrictions were introduced across the province.

Council made the decision to keep the ice after hearing from operation manager Brady Nolan who said it would be more expensive to remove the ice and place it back once lockdown is over.

Council will meet again, hopefully with a more clear picture of when lockdown can end and facilities can reopen.
