House of Commons Passes Bill C-206

Bill will now go to senate

The House of Commons has passed Bill C-206.

The Conservative led bill will exempt farmers from paying the carbon tax on gasoline, propane and natural gas. The bill was first introduced by MP Philip Lawrence.

Agriculture groups such as the Ontario Federation of Agriculture have proudly supported the bill saying farmers for the most part are not able to recover from costs associated with the carbon tax. Adding the federal carbon tax has impacted the ability of Canadian farmers to compete in domestic or international markets.

The bill saw 149 liberal members vote against as well as 1 independent also voting nay. All Conservative, NDP, Bloc Quebecois and Green party members voted in favour.

The bill will now head to the Senate for a vote.
