In the final local riding debate in Perth-Wellington the heat was dialed up as the topic of supply management came up.

The debate, hosted by the Wellington Federation of Agriculture featured all 4 candidates with John Nater, Wayne Baker, Brenden Knight and Kevin Kruchicywich.

Wayne Baker spoke saying its time to phase out supply management. Baker added the massive overhead regarding quota has negative impacts for the farming operation in terms of actual equity required to produce the commodity and when the cost is carried forward to the consumer.

John Nater fired immediately back with words regarding PPC Leader Maxime Bernier and supply management.

“All I can say is thank goodness Maxime Bernier was never the trade minister. I could not even imagine him in a trade negotiation on supply management saying “Hey take it all!” and giving it all away because that’s exactly what Maxime Bernier would have done.” said Nater.

Liberal candidate Brendan Knight said he completely supports supply management and will continue to do so, yielding his time quickly.

NDP’s Kevin Kruchkywich saying the NDP is the party of supply management.
