Health Minister Announces Next Phase of “Plan to Stay Open”

Over the past week, Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Sylvia Jones have faced increased pressure from the public to tackle the issue in Ontario’s health care system.

Jones spoke earlier this morning to announced the five point strategy to boost the provinces health care system.

“Our plan includes action in five key areas. Preserving our hospital capacity, providing the right care in the right place, further reducing surgical wait lists, easing pressures on our emergency departments and further expanding Ontario’s health workforce.” said Jones.

The next step of this phase is expected to add 6000 new healthcare workers in the sector. Jones adds the province is working with the nurses college to reduce financial barriers costs such as exams, application and registration fees.

The Health Minister also says the government will allow the movement of patients in long term care beds outside of their communities of which patients will have their say if they are being moved.

Jones also announcing the increase of surgical capacity by increasing the number of OHIP covered procedures in existing private facilities.
