Health Canada has approved an end to ban gay men on donating blood.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the ban should have ended 10-15 years ago and says the liberal government invested $5 million in research into the safety aspects of changing blood donation rules and scientific reports to proven blood supply will continue to be safe.
Canadian Blood Services says the questions changing about sexual behavior rather than orientation will allow more reliable assess risk of infections such as HIV which can be transmitted through transfusions.
