Wellington County’s Green Legacy Program continues to get better with every passing year.
Tree distribution numbers in 2024-25 rose 3 per cent according to a report from the county’s planning committee.
The program allows residents to grow trees across the area with the hopes to increase forest cover in the county while also getting the community involved to understand the importance of trees and forests.
A total of 165,446 trees were dished across the county in the last year.
The Green Legacy Tree Program is the largest municipal tree planting program in North America which in 2010 was recognized by the United Nations under the Billion Tree Campaign for its significant environmental contribution.
