The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Watch for the Grand River Watershed.
Warm sunny conditions through the first half of this week have melted much of the snowpack across the Grand River watershed resulting in increasing runoff into local waterways.
Rainfall totals forecast to accompany this event have been significantly reduced and are no longer expected to contribute to elevated river flows.
Flows in local waterways through the watershed continue to increase and will remain elevated into early next week. Significantly flooding due to runoff from this event is no longer expected, however flooding from ice jams is still possible in some areas.
Residents and businesses located in the floodplain should be aware of risks associated with spring flooding and ensure they are familiar with their local municipal flood response plans.
GRCA’s major reservoirs at Belwood, Conestogo, Guelph, Luther, Woolwich, Laurel and Shade’s Mills are being used to store runoff from this event and help reduce flooding downstream of these reservoirs.
This message will remain in effect until Monday, March 15th at 4:30pm.
