A Wellington County resident is out $14,000 after being the victim of a grandparent scam.
On February 8th OPP received a report of a possible scam when it was said the victim got a phone call advising their grandson was in jail and needed bail money.
An unknown person attended the victims address on Keating Drive in Elora and collected $14,000.
OPP say to be aware of warning signs to protect yourself including if you receive a call from a supposed family member in an emergency, to hang up and contact them directly, to be suspicious of any call which requires immediate action and be careful with caller ID numbers as scammers have access to spoof numbers to make it appear from a trusted source.
