Government Looking to Prevent Strike Action

Ontario education workers are expected to engage in a full strike rather than work to rule, however the Ford government is looking to intervene before workers can enter the picket line.

The government is planning to table legislation later today to prevent CUPE education workers from striking following the union issuing a 5 day notice of a strike.

In a release from the Upper Grand District School Board, Peter Sovran, Director of Education says CUPE represents custodial and maintenance staff and ESL instructors within their board.

Sovran adds the school board highly values the service of CUPE workers and respect of the collective bargaining process.

Should strike action be taken which could start on Friday, there will not be an impact with AMDSB schools as CUPE does not represent any employees with the board.
