Future of RIDE WELL Uncertain in Wellington County

The future of Wellington County’s RIDE WELL program is up in the air as the program nears its end and it’ll up to the County to decide its next steps.

County Councilor Campbell Cork says in March RIDE WELL, a service similar to UBER provided 775 rides which cost the program $24,000 but only $6000 fares were collected given its heavily subsidized.

Cork says a service such as this is invaluable for the area.

“This kind of public transit particularly for our rural population is nothing but an essential service and one that is well worth funding and a terrific use of taxpayers dollars. I think with our growing population and ever growing need its only going to grow” said Cork.

Cork added it will fall on the county’s municipalities to consider how much funding this program will cost, how much they want to pay and how much the province could provide.

A workshop is set on May 16th in Fergus to discuss the RIDE WELL program.
