Fraudsters continue to take aim locally with one small business in Guelph-Eramosa being a recent victim.
OPP say an unknown person compromised a company email account, sending a mass email to the company’s client list saying their email had changed to that of the scammers.
Client’s were then told to sent payments via e-transfer to this scammers email address.
At least two clients made payments to this fraudulent email.
OPP say fraudsters will often use company logos or names and could send fraudulent invoices posing as trusted vendors and that users should view these invoices carefully before making such payments.
