Former Groves Hospital in Fergus Likely to be Torn Down

Hospital closed in August 2020 after Aboyne hospital opened

It’s likely the old Groves hospital, now called Legacy Groves in Fergus will likely be torn down says Groves Memorial Community Hospital CEO Angela Stanley.

The province will stop paying for the former hospital site in March 2023, giving little time for the board to figure out what to do with the old hospital which has members leaning more towards demolishing the hospital and having something new in its place.

The site currently is being used as a COVID-19 assessment centre and has been used as a filming location and for OPP training.

The hospital itself closed in August 2020 when a new hospital in Aboyne opened.

Updates are expected to be provided to Centre Wellington council throughout the year.
