The annual Festive RIDE campaign is underway, launching on Canada’s National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims.

Over the next month and a half, officers will be conducting R.I.D.E spot checks and targeted patrols to detect and deter impaired driving.

The Festive R.I.D.E campaign will run until the new year with officers setting up checkpoints in both high-traffic and rural areas.

Traffic Sergeant Kevin Driscoll with Wellington County OPP says to plan ahead even if you intend to just have only a few drinks.

“Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can affect judgement. If you’re heading out to celebrate, please plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home. Whether its a ride share or taxi, designated driver or public transit, make the right choice that keeps you and other safe.” said Driscoll.

OPP add they remain committed to protecting Wellington Roads from impaired drivers and encouraging the public to do their part and never drive after drinking or using drugs.
