Feds announce support programs for drought impacted farmers

Support for beef cattle farmers includes a tax deferral program

Yesterday the Federal Minister of Agriculture and AgriFood, Marie-Claude Bibeau announced support measures the Government of Canada is taking to support produces all across the country affected by extreme weather.

The announcement was made at the Forks press conference where drought impacted Manitoba farmers gave first hand on the resulting crop losses, affected crop quality and reduced forage and water supplies available for livestock.

There was also an early designation of the livestock tax deferral announced for drought areas of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

This will allow beef producers forced to sell significant amounts of their breeding heard to offset the resulting revenues with the costs in replacing the herd.
