Federal Government bans incoming flights from India & Pakistan for 30 days

50% of all arriving passengers who test positive were from India even though they are only 20% of traffic

The Federal Government announced they are suspending incoming flights from India and Pakistan for the next month as cases surge in both countries.

Minister of Transportation Omar Alghabra says that because there are so many people arriving in Canada from both countries with Covid all commercial and private passenger flights from both countries will be prohibited as of midnight.

Cargo flights will still be allowed to ensure shipments of vaccine and PPE can continue.

Canada isn’t expecting any more shipments of vaccine from India until at least June as they battle their biggest increase in cases.

More than 300,000 people were diagnosed in India today alone, it’s highest day total to date.
