Talks in council on the proposed $400 million dollar Xinyi Glass Plant in Stratford have been rather quiet.
Council made the decision to pause talks during the lockdown but those against the glass plant have not kept quiet. Some farmers have expressed their concerns to local agriculture groups.
President of the Perth County Federation of Agriculture, Tim Halliday says, farmers are being left in the dark.
“Farmers have contacted us who are near the glass plant. They have concerns about air pollution, noise and water quality issues of such a plant being built. They are not getting transparent information. There are many in the area quite worried about that.” said Halliday
Halliday added some advice to farmers who are expressing their concerns about the plant
“We are encouraging them to get some baseline testing done so they can compare what the situation is like on their farm before the plant is being built and afterwards.”
Xinyi Canada expressed disappointment in Stratford council when they announced talks would pause during lockdown.
