Stratford will be providing a grant of more than $82,000 to support Optimism Place Women’s Shelter as they look to expand to an 18 bed 6000 square foot boost at their current location.
Construction is expected to start next month on the expansion at the Freeland Street location.
The discussion took place during a finance and labour relations committee meeting to look at waiving all building permit fees and development charges.
Some concerns were raised by some councilors such as Dave Gaffney who said while it this is a great project to move forward with, covering fees such as building permits could set a precedent for other non profits to request such actions as well for future construction projects.
