Wellington North Power says there’s been an increase in energy scams hitting locals.

Residents may receive calls or emails of those pretending to pose as operators about disconnecting services unless a bill is paid right away by cash, gift card or with crypto.

Officials say this is nothing more than a scam.

Fraudsters typically use phone, text and emails to target those for scams.

The Ontario Energy Board says they will never contact you for any reason unless you reach out to them first.
