A union representing Ontario education workers have a set strike vote, however no actual walking off the job to strike would take place until at least October.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees which represents 55,000 workers including maintenance staff, librarians and early childhood educators will open voting from September 23rd-October 2nd whether to set a strike mandate.
President of the union, Laura Walton says a strike vote does not necessarily mean workers will withdraw services but its part of the process to show the government they are prepared to fight for workers and public education.
The union continues to look for an annual increase for workers of 11.7 per cent while the government has offered a 2 per cent increase for those making under $40,000 and 1.25 for everyone else.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the union was already on a strike vote path before they had even received their first offer from the government and is making unreasonable demands.
