With the increase of wildlife on the roads, Wellington County is dishing out tips for drivers to avoid hitting them and causing damage to your vehicle.

Considering the county is home to many natural areas and forests the springtime can lead to a list of animals on the roadways.

In the county small wildlife such as turtles, raccoons, possums and skunks as well as larger wildlife like deer and coyotes are out and about.

Tips to avoid crashes with wildlife including to scan the road, use your high beams when driving on unlit roads at night, brake firmly when safe to do so if an animal is crossing and never to swerve to avoid hitting wildlife as it can lead to a more serious crash.
